Well Being and Duty of Care

PROMOTING GOOD BEHAVIOUR

At St Patrick’s, it is a primary aim that every member of the school community feels valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly and well. We are a caring community, where Christian values focus on mutual trust and respect for all. Our school behaviour policy is therefore designed to support the way in which all members of the school can live and work together. It aims to promote an environment where everyone feels happy, safe and secure.

Within a school “Family” some rules are essential: these are mostly matters of common sense to ensure the safety of our children.  The emphasis in the school is to praise positive behaviour, attitude and effort and to increase children’s awareness of the need to make a positive contribution to their community.

We have a Behaviour Policy which is consistently applied by all staff.

Good behaviour is reinforced using house points, certificates and privileges.  Teaching and

support staff reward effort, good behaviour and kindness.

Swearing, acts of racism or aggressive behaviour are not tolerated.  All children are aware of class rules and Golden Rules.

Houses:

Children belong to one of four houses;

St Matthew (green), St Mark (red),

St Luke (yellow) and St John (blue).

House points can be achieved for a multitude of reasons; Miss Priddle announces weekly totals, which tally up to an end of term RESULT and REWARD for the winning house!

CHALLENGING BULLYING.

Everyone at St Patrick’s Primary School has the right to feel welcome, secure and happy. Bullying of any sort prevents this from happening and our Anti-bullying policy contains guidelines to support this ethos. It is our aim to challenge attitudes about bullying behaviour, increase understanding for bullied pupils and help build an anti-bullying and value based ethos in the school in line with the Mission Statement.

Our Vision is:

To promote a safe, secure and enjoyable learning environment for all children to achieve their full potential

Our Aims:
  • To develop a school ethos in which bullying is regarded as unacceptable
  • To raise awareness of the nature and impact of bullying
  • To raise awareness of what systems are in place to deal with bullying
  • To promote a consistent and coherent approach towards identifying, challenging and responding to bullying
  • To promote the emotional resilience of children to recognise and deal more effectively with bullying in all settings
  • To encourage all settings to promote a culture of openness to deal more effectively with bullying
  • To promote the understanding that the management of bullying is the responsibility of us all
